I consider Swim to be a big achievement for me. I think it thoroughly showcases how much I've grown as a producer and its variedness hints at how much further I can take my music. It was important to emphasize my fursona on the artwork because I wanted to show that "furry music" could also encompass more genres than people typically associate with furries. I also really wanted a physical release as I felt it would give my discography more legitimacy. However, what I ended up learning is that it's a pain in the ass to self-distribute CDs. That being said, I am very proud of this album.
In April 2024, while vacationing in Australia, I had the idea to follow up my to-be-released BIZ001 EP with an obvious BIZ002. I immediately imagined the cover art as a collage of otters swimming around. Since I had recently joined the furry fandom, overlapping my anthro interests with my music was at the front of my mind.
Just after BIZ001 released in August 2024, I put assembled potential tracklists for BIZ002 and a possible BIZ003. The past year had been highly creative for me and I had recently amassed a lot of songs I wanted to release.
By October, I realized it would be funny if I never followed up BIZ001 with any numbered releases, and instead pivoted to merging BIZ002 and BIZ003 into a full-length album. On 2024-10-10, I came up with "Swim" as a succinct title. I also added many more recent songs for potential inclusion and widdled down the final tracklist by 2024-10-22. Cenote was the final song to be made and added.
The artwork was commissioned from wahredpanda89997. I found their profile in mid October and realized they were exactly the artist I wanted to do the Swim artwork. I was fascinated by their amazing work with reflecting light and water. Just a few days later, they happened to open for commissions, and I messaged them immediately. The artwork was completed on 2024-10-28.
Over the next few months I continuted tweaking songs to perfection, and then in mid January sent out the unmastered album to friends to get opinions and feedback. In February I talked to wahredpanda89997 again about making additional artwork for a small run of CDs. The insert art was finished in mid March.
The album was musically finished in January 2025 (however a few songs would receive some last minute tweaks in June). From January to June, the album had to wait for mastering to be completed. During the wait I created my Otter Space mini-album, and filmed several promotional videos for swim with the help of my husband.
Upon receiving the finished masters on 2025-06-10, I contacted PDM Corp in Surry BC and ordered 50 copies of Swim CDrs. The finished CDrs were delivered to me on 2025-06-25. The following day, I announced and began teasing the album with the promotional videos.
