About

A triple split-EP made with interception, celebrating a melting winter. Four solo tracks each and four collaborative tracks, making three distinct sections of this release. Three EPs in one, if you'd like.

Production History

All the way back in December 2024, I created a song I initially called Inky but later renamed to Toque. This song had a general wintry vibe, and thus spawned the idea of a winter-themed release. Later, throughout early 2025, I started working on updateing and finally completing several very old songs. These, with Toque, were on the shortlist for inclusion on the yet-to-be-titled winter EP. However, by mid 2025, most of those songs ended up on my Otter Space mini-album. I became more excited about that project, and the winter EP fell by the wayside until November.

By then, Otter Space was long completed and waiting for release, freeing up my time to focus on the winter EP idea I still wanted to do. I mentioned the project to my friend interception, and the conversation steered towards us collaborating on it. We agreed that our music styles lined up when I attempted more melodic, ambient music, which was what I was aiming for with the winter EP.

We officially agreed to collaborate on 2025-11-12, but did not start any work on it until December 31st. We knew we'd like the EP to release in the winter months of 2026, so we had to work somewhat quickly. Just over a month later, we had all the material complete, including over an hour of outtakes.

The title and artwork idea were conceived back in late November while I was researching concepts relating to combining and overlaying, to find ways to represent our collaboration. The cyanotype artwork, and especially the idea to apply it directly onto the discs, was by interception, who hand-made all 50 copies. The packaging layout was designed mostly by me, and the jewel cases and printed inserts was by PDM Corp, in Surrey BC.

alpha/composite was announced on 2026-02-18, and released on 2026-02-22 digitally. The physical CD-R orders were delayed until 2026-02-25, when the printed inserts and jewel cases were delivered to me.
